He of course goes on an insult ride for awhile, but frankly I don't care. He's given up. We won.

Re: Final Chapter in the DS/FS3 saga?
I have no idea why he'd want the license, anyways.  There's not that much inherent value in it - except by reputation for being a brilliant accessible and fun shooter, which is the opposite of any game he's ever developed.  Perhaps he wanted to avoid the stigma of the BC/UC franchises (which have now seemingly been rejected by every shop-selling publisher and restricted to the net), or something.  He's a dick, though.  I don't like stooping to that sort of level, but it's the way he's acted; anyone who complains about him or criticises him is instantly not a true fan, or a 'disgrace to the franchise'.  Truth be told, we've done more for the franchise than anyone bar Volition themselves; I'd love to see how Dave Baranec or any of the developers would respond to this, but I guess it wouldn't be 'suitable' given that they work within the industry and may have to actually meet the guy.

Anyways, didn't daveb predict he wouldn't be able to afford it?

Re: Final Chapter in the DS/FS3 saga?
As I see it now, he is never gonna get that license. I think someone else stoped him from getting it, ether Interplay didn't want to sell it, or :v: didn't want to sell their rights to the ships, textures and story. Now he is mad and is trying to blame us for that reason. I sounds alot better to say, that he didn't get it because of alot of rabid fans, than Interplay denying him the license.

And now it's mostly a hate trip, taking it out on :v:'s true fans. And then trying to get us to beg him to make it, where he can show :v: or Interplay to get them to sell it.

However thats not gonna happen.

Re: Final Chapter in the DS/FS3 saga?
Yes, along with mentioning several other barriers to acquiring the rights to do another FS game (to do with the split between what Interplay owns and what V retained). Of course, when I pointed them out, I "obviously knew much less that I thought I did".

Meh. It's more or less over, despie what he's said later in the thread. I'm happy with that.

Re: Final Chapter in the DS/FS3 saga?
Well, he actually gave up quite a while ago, he just has to have the last word is all.

Like I said before, I don't hate the guy, but I don't like him either but most of the rest of the people there are ok, I even somehow managed to peace out Omegabob and at least get his side of the story, and he does have a point.

I'll be blunt, I didn't really give a damn whether FS3 was made or not, or who made it, I'd like it to be [v] but even if Bethseda announced tomorrow they were making FS3, it wouldn't really have bothered me. This community is about Freespace, and particularly FS2, but it goes further than that, as long as we were left alone to do our thing, we're happy, we're more artists than game designers to be honest, doing something out of love not profit.

Anyway, 'tis over, no doubt he'll try 'HLP HLP HLP!!!' a few more times, I recommend that everyone just rise above it though. If, for no other reason, out of respect for Avault.

Edit : Anyway, let it rest and sink under the Horizon, we've gone our seperate ways, and it's clear we won't get on, so let's just get over it and move on. We didn't win, the decision wasn't made because of us, the decision was made because of business, we may have been lucky, but theres no point to keeping chewing this over.

Re: Final Chapter in the DS/FS3 saga?
Inferno is a fan-made campaign, it is no more FS3 than Derelict, Homesick or Transcend.  Although, because it has so many new ships and weapons, some people like to think of it as FS3.

I just like the fact that both forums think they behaved civil, and that the other forum are jerks.

Although he mentioned the 'issue would die until the announcement' in the last(?) thread on the subject.

My concern was that a really crap FS3 would deter people from trying FS2, and more specifically from looking at the various SCP related works.

Re: Final Chapter in the DS/FS3 saga?
Did he have the posts that you (aldo, weatherop and..... karajorma?) added removed from that thread? Or is that entire 3 page thread you pointed to different from the one that started lastnight?

The man just seems like a premadonna (not actually sure how you spell that, Goober?) you can sense it from every sentance he types. I've not tried any of his games and that won't stop me from it but until Volition declare that they'll never make FS3 I'd certainly prefer to leave them with the option rather than giving it to smart.
Watch out for the Guns! They'll getcha!

Goodness me, would you guys leave it alone? They finally locked/removed everything over on AVault and the matter is ended there. Let Derek get on with his own tiny deluded little world and we can get on with more important things.
