Adding shield to models
I'm wondering how can I put shield into my model ?
Because, whatever the fighter I pilot, it explode immediately when I'm near a shockwave from bomb (like Cyclops).

Or, when I'm at fire range of the Imperial Star Destroyer (that I put in Fs2), I can stay alive long enought. With only 10 shots I'm dead  :shaking:

Re: Adding shield to models
Ehh. Segeltuch is ****ty at everything else though, and corrupts models easily. Best way is to reconvert the model and give it a proper shield mesh.

Or copy the pof, make a shield with Segeltuch on the copy, open the original pof with pcs and import the shield from the copy

Bah, if you're going through all that, reconverting is usually easier. Plus you get a proper shield shaped however you want.

Re: Adding shield to models
Now, i have another trouble. I gave shield mesh for cruiser where the shield mesh is exactly the same as the cruiser model. BUT, when i played mission with it, 5 sec after, Fs2 crashed badly with no reason. And, I don't know why, but I've made a similar shield for a fighter, and it doesn't make the game crashing.

Do you know where my problem comes from ?

Re: Adding shield to models
Shield meshes cannot have nearly as many polygons as the hull, to the point that you need to be very careful when doing a duplication like that.  Make a much lower poly mesh as the shield.

Re: Adding shield to models
So, it's because collision between Shield and the model ? I note that, and test it. Thanks. ^^

Re: Adding shield to models
No that's not it at all.  I can't remember exactly what the shield mesh collision detection scheme is, but IIRC it's different from the one used for the hull and cannot handle as many polygons.  While it's true that the shield mesh should be appreciably outside of the model, that's actually not what I was getting at.  But try a simpler shield mesh all around.

Re: Adding shield to models
With a simple mesh, all work perfect.

Question...how simple has a shieldmesh to be to work...in polygones?

Re: Adding shield to models
Under Truespace, I've just create a Rounded Cube, and give it the best size as possible. When finish, I triangulate it, and it gave me, 248 poly.

Good question... the Kilrathi Cruiser shieldmesh I made a year or two ago had about 4000 polys (or so I think I remember) and worked rather fine with SCP 3.5.5 (yes, it was sort of unfinished - some things still sticking outside it, I know... ) .
So far I didn't test it with a newer build, though...

btw: hi!  :)

Re: Adding shield to models
Well, I'm not. Whenever I tried, either the pof got terribly corrupted or segeltuch outright crashed (mostly the latter one...). I'm making my shieldmeshs in tS - can get quite complicated, though. :(
