Considering how few people will have a capable HDTV even by the year's end, I fail to see how even having a range of high-def titles or players will attract that many customers. The DVD format didn't break even until at least 3 years after it the first hardware was out. Surely Blu-ray would be in the same boat?

From what I've seen, Blu-ray is basically betting on the PS3 at the moment, as that'll give them presence. Honestly? I don't really see the point of either.

The point, in theory, should simply be not getting the LOTR across 2 DVDs that you need to switch between, or Season 1 of BSG on a full disk.  The point in actuality is, fo course, trying to find ways to squeeze money by limiting how you can use bought DVDs.

I was referring more to the higher resolutions. Most of the movies they'll release were originally filmed without the intention of having copies made of this quality, so you'll either end up with subpar tranfers that look like they came off a DVD, or too much detail.
