I followed a few links from a PA strip that described linking to warez by a copy protection company. The news piece itself is ok but what's really interesting and quite excellent is the point of view of the game's owner towards anti-piracy measures. Take a look: Link

This is that Starforce/Stardock thing, right?  Stardock's really going to win this one just from a revenue point of view (and get some major brownie points from the gaming community to boot) but they actually sold their game in part on the "we don't force you to use any invasive copy protection to play our games" platform.  A good read nonetheless.

Strat, most people read reviews, even pre-release info on the game they're about to buy. Stardock wouldn't have been so successful had they made a bad game, I think they deserve to be able to take advantage of their claim that they haven't hindered or restricted how a user plays a game.

The only people who genuinely need fear such a system are those who make poor games. I may just buy this title irrespective of not really being a big TBS fan.

Oh I'm not saying you could win the revenue war on a bad game, don't get me wrong.  They did write a good game and are in position to reap the rewards of that despite (thanks to?) their inability to really try to stop piracy.  I just know that I bought it before this whole thing broke out and I noted a mention in the case that you didn't need special copy protection software to play, thus finding the whole StarForce controversy just a tad bit ironic.  And it more than proves the worth of the (non-intrusive) method of key-protection that StarDock is using now.

Goddammit. I haven't pirated a single ****ing piece of software on this system, and yet I've still got random drivers polluting my system. Hopefully the removal fixes my mouse cursor detaching from the graphical cursor when playing audio CDs, or the random crashes under Opposing Forces. :doubt:

Think about a no-cd patch; it makes your drive and your disks last longer.

It would be a bad idea not to use one...
