I think your ruling party has that ethos, any conservative-based party would, but whilst it's opinions may fall on the side of that preference, they aren't stupid enough to actually try and swim against the current to get what they want. Conservatives always have a slight advantage, in my opinion, because whilst true Socialism is an ideal (an unachievable one at that), conservatism is the natural mistrusting state of humanity given political form.
The BNP, however, fail to realise that most of us spend our lives hovering between these two states, our own inner fears of people with different colours/cultures, our stereotypes of them are always in conflict of the fact that we are aware that a lot of those fears are based on stereotypes. They think that simply by passing these laws, that the populace would accept and abide by them.
