per second is more important when dealing with cap ships, while per shot is more important when dealing with really fast interceptors and such. so maxim is better in this case.

Rating | Per Shot | Per Second
Akheton: 1 | 30 | 85.71
Maxim: 1 | 20 | 133.33
Kayser: .35 | 9.8 | 39.20

Per Shot Akheton is best, but per second it's the Maxim.

Maxim also has the longest range: 1800 Velocity * 2 Lifetime = 3600 distance.

Looks great.  The perspective on the beam is a little off (should grow smaller with distance, so it should be barely visible when it reaches the Lucifer).

Chickens?!?  WTF!?!
I told you that It would be done by November, well, mostly anyway...

I'm working on something new... shhhhh, it's a seceret.

Shouldn't the caption be something to the tune of "Up yours"?

Anyways, a few nitpicks:

- Change the explosion layer to screen (or was it multiply? I forget - it's one or the other).

- The white core of the beam and warmup glow should be significantly larger then it is, while the beam radius should stay the same.

- When you render ships to which you're going to add a beam in post production, put strong local lights where the beam warmup glow and impact location are, to throw glows on the nearby sections of the ships.

But all in all, good job - especially on the engine glows and lighting... Oh, and BTW - flip the Orion.

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

"The very essence of tolerance rests on the fact that we have to be intolerant of intolerance. Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill
