Who here takes, or has taken flying lessons?

I know I'm taking them in hopes of getting my Priv. license.  I'm only six lessons in thus far, I would give flight hours but I don't feel like getting my log book.

After High School, I'm either going to college then the Air Force, or vice-versa.

No no, it's seperate enough.

I was going to take my PPL when I was younger but it was a flight of fancy (sorry) and I didn't really properly commit myself. I did have some one hour trial lessons and actually worked at the local airport for work experience which was cool. Ended up being flown across the country and back in a day which beat sitting in the office!

I'd love to get a job at the airport.  It's just, I don't really know what good I would be.   :nervous:

I'm taking flying lessons :) Really fun indeed, although I want to go civil, not military (don't feel like being a robot). Why not take college then go to Air Force? IIRC you don't require a commitment if you fail out (because you incurred no costs for aviation).

I'm not really sure.  I was going to talk to my school counselor and some people that I know have went through the AF to see how it all works.

Really though, the reason I want to go through the military is I don't really have the money to get anything beyond a private license, or, at least as things stand, I won't have the money.  If I get a job and my dad gets his VA check I might have the funds, otherwise I doubt it.

I fully intend to make a career out of this if at all possible though.  It's really been something I've always seen myself doing.

I can't wait to see Swantz shooting down Boeing 747's in his F-16! (or his Eurofighter Typhoon if he lives in the UK)

Try talking to local instructors, or searching around the internet. I found some good forums that gave me great advice on what to do, but I forget the names of them. They're out there though :D

Of course I don't think of the obvious.  XD

I know my instructor was civilian trained, but he hasn't been to college yet either.  :-/  I don't like the sound of that, because it's always good to have a fall-back.

From what I've heard, don't get a college degree in flight or w/e - do it on the side while you get a fallback career. College degrees cost a lot of money, but once you graduate, you still have to do low income jobs (read: instructing) to get anywhere, which means you take a long time to get your degree money earned back. Airlines look on degrees favorably, but you can still make it without them.

That's what I gather, anyway :)

Pshh! I've been taking flying lessons for years. Well, sort of. Just... replace "flying" with "heroin-induced" and "lessons" with "week-long odysseys of debauchery through red-light districts in only my bathrobe."
