True, Ja Ja gave it to much of a "kids feel" where the sarcastic banter between C3PO and R2D2 was both entertaining and adult at the same time (it didn't matter that young children couldn't understand it, and that was the whole beauty of it).
However Venom also has a point - Star Wars
should have massive fleet battles in all it's episodes, thats why it's called
Star Wars and not
Land Wars. The Naboo/Droid fleet was impressive but lost some of it's touch since we had to listen to Anakins pathetic whining as he learn't how to fly the starfighter. Now I know he's a Jedi etc... and should be good at flying but there was none of the comradeship between the Naboo against the evil Droid ships as there was with the Rebels against the Imperials - it all felt much more human when we had that going on.
That said - there was a land battle on Hoth as well as on Naboo, but what have we here? Ja Ja Binks wandering around being stupid and accidentally saving the day - Blatently something to keep the kids entertained, I was hoping for a gritty fight between the under-equiped Gungans and the Imperial like presence of the Droid army - but was instead put through the various antics of everyones most hated alien ever.
Little things like that made a potentially excellent film just "average" since it relied to heavily on effects and not on good acting. None of the charachters were really developed (except perhaps Quigon Jin (sp?)). Whereas in 4/5/6 there was a tight nit between the actors who all had real charachter (Han Solo anyone?) hell, even Princess Leia managed some feeling in her acting, whereas Queen Amidala in all her guises was really rather wooden and overly regal considering her age and the situation she was in.
But I'm going on, I could pick holes in the films for a long time but I really don't think I should - I've said my piece, for now
