It looks like they're on the path to remaking 'Spaced for American audiences. Not only that, but they're doing it completely without input from Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright.

What the **** is with remaking classics these days? Is originality dead? Has the notion of 'respect' gone completely down the toilet in recent years, paving the way for a new generation of developers that prefer to sodomize classic ideas rather than coming up with original ones?

Well the remake of the office was good (supposedly, I haven't seen it) but they had the input of the person who created it there. Spaced worked cause of the input of Simon Pegg and Jessica Hynes. It's not going to work if you just ignore them.

The office worked in my eye because they took the uk format and applied it to an american dynamic. I know they can (try to) do it with spaced, but it just wont carry over......

The remake culture is so popular today because it's just so ****ing easy to do.  Producers love being able to take an idea, already have some ratings to back it up, and re-hash it for today's pop culture.

Yeah but Spaced is about the oddest thing they could choose to recycle. If I had to pick any of the C4 Friday night comedies I'd have put it bottom of the list. Hell they'd have more luck remaking Phoenix Nights than Spaced!

I can basically guarantee it will not be very similar to the original, they'll likely do some massive overhauling (if it's as bad as you say), using the the name and the old show to pull in the old fans.

It's not that Spaced is bad, in fact it's a very good show, I bought the DVD's.

But it's very very cult. Although you can watch it if you're not a sci-fi fan you're probably not going to get a lot of the jokes. The show expects you to know your pop-culture. How many American sitcoms could get away with references to Hawk the Slayer and Buggy Malone?

notice the movie based on a theme park ride that turned into a trilogy... and left it open for another at the end

or all of the movies that were books first. or all of the movies that were movies first. The most I hope for is a remake to a movie I havent seen before

Dont get me wrong, I liked POTC, all 3 of them, but if a 4th one came out I would consider not watching it.

I'm with Karajorma on this one, they simply can't "remake" Spaced and expect it to be as successful because Spaced is very cult.

The have it hit the mainstream US audience they're going to have to strip that out of it. Especially if it's without input from Pegg or Wright - it's simply not going to be as good. Perhaps I'm jumping too far on the defensive there as a purist who does love Spaced, but from what I've seen of US remakes - I hold little hope for this.

Now normally I wouldn't care - their remake could bomb and everyone could forget about it. But there's a chance the more ignorant US viewers (and that doesn't mean they're all ignorant, before anyone gets upset) - are going to say "this is ****, I bet the British version is just as ****". It'll drag a perfectly good, successful, cult show through the dirt. Spaced doesn't deserve that.

I strongly disagree with Fox's get-in-the-action-as-quickly-as-you-can-to-keep-the-audience's-attention-span-despite-the-fact-that-there-are-people-out-there-who-care-about-plot dictum. Their shows, AFAIK, have very little plot and much action (House M.D. excluded). As far as their news goes, however...
