Riding the winmx horse again
Probably most people have used the latest and greatest winmx back in the day. Until they got shutdown. Probably some people know here that the winmx network still existed after the creators got shutdown. And that winmx has been patched so it works again.

Also that i'm not on a network where i can forward my tcp and udp ports because i don't get to have administrative rights on the router here, but that while i can't get onto the winmx network yet, that winmx makes one hell of an opennap client. I never knew that before the winmx network that winmx was just another napster client.

Get it all right here.

Also it appears devs are starting to reverse engineer the proprietary winmx wpnp protocol. Opensource third party winmx clients are popping up. Thank god because wpnp is lot better than opennap. Users won't need to worry about their winmx needing to be patched. The winmx network will grow because ease of use will have come. Winmx will survive a lot better in a less bleak world where everyone currently is stuck with using the old awesome client. Winmx clients as opensource will be able to be upgraded and implement new features since there will be source code. There was a client written in python called winpy which is in early alpha. And another one fashioned directly after the classic winmx called moonmx which is in beta right now. And last but not least, winmx runs great in the new version of wine

Normally I would say "Failure to care imminent," but since it's WinMX, I'll say this.

Enjoy your ****ty rips, viruses, and corrupt files.  Also, keep in mind that there is limited bandwidth, so it might take a while to download that collection of CP.  Say hi to the guys in the party van for me.

WinMX can suck a dick.

So Winmx is file sharing stuff

And it beat up scuddie in the past from the sound of it.

I don't understand the technical blab. But if it works  for torrenting legal things like campaigns and mods using rss feeds.
Campaigns I've added my distinctiveness to-
- Blue Planet: Battle Captains
-Battle of Neptune
-Between the Ashes 2
-Blue planet: Age of Aquarius
-FOTG?
-Inferno R1
-Ribos: The aftermath / -Retreat from Deneb
-Sol: A History
-TBP EACW teaser
-Earth Brakiri war
-TBP Fortune Hunters (I think?)
-TBP Relic
-Trancsend (Possibly?)
-Uncharted Territory
-Vassagos Dirge
-War Machine
(Others lost to the mists of time and no discernible audit trail)

Re: Riding the winmx horse again
Winmx is the best. The winmx network is very on top of keeping out flooders with fake files. It's a reliable client. It supports opennap as well, but wpnp is a better protocol. And it's a decentralized network. As far as viruses and stuff goes, i know limewire, kazaa, and morpheus are littered with them. Through the years of using winmx i can attest to it's viruslessness. But, i guess people aren't as lucky as me

And how about you trying getting rips from other users on winmx in the least.

Scuddie: Oh this rip sucks dick!!!! I think i'll continue downloading it from the user...watch it...AND COMPLAIN!!!!

That's why there's other users who will not only possess the same rip, but many many many others who will have a different rip. I mean damn, i sort of can go in there, and download a 128, 160, 192, 256, 320 bit rate mp3's of the same mp3's all day long (those are all different audio rip bit rates).

Urgh, I'm not sure if this topic should be allowed to live. As far as P2P goes, WinMX isn't exactly on the legal side as far as shared content goes.

Re: Riding the winmx horse again
Yes, but it's mainly the fact that it's one of the best p2p softwares out there. Aside from it's p2p abilities people use it for the chatrooms especially.

Re: Riding the winmx horse again
It may be the best P2P client (I sincerely doubt it, but that is beside the point), but P2P is still P2P and that's why it is worth as much as the bowels of a rotting horse carcass.

Re: Riding the winmx horse again
Winmx is the longest surviving p2p service still in existence. It's been there since the beginning since napster. Although winmx didn't go the way of the dodo like napster did. That's one reason why winmx is the best, they're one of the originals

This one's easy. Rewritten to correct fury as follows.

Urgh, I'm sure this topic should be allowed to live. As far as P2P goes, WinMX isn't exactly on the legal side as far as shared content goes. But i know it's not illegal to talk about p2p software.

Bravo fury  Now you got it. I'm sure someone here is going to be overly pissed about me doing something so minor to ones words.

I know we are allowed to talk about it's uses, what it has caused, and what in general users will find on p2p services. P2p is also not illegal, this is a common misperception brought on by people simply not thinking. Why would sharing technology be illegal? If it was, the internet would be a black market thing all the way.

The real thing is that p2p is legal, but largely the medium is used for illegal practices. If people only followed the rules and shared legal stuff on p2p networks. Then the RIAA and MPAA wouldn't be having a single problem. But, since many using the net, many will not follow the rules. Hell even if winmx weren't here, there's rapidshare. In other words, if you have illegal content on your computer from p2p, obviously that's illegal and you should feel guilty. If you only have legal content on your computer and you use p2p to share and get more of it, then there's no reason to stop.

Talking about p2p in general is not evilspeak. Giving people exact instructions on where to find one specific thing that is illegal, and tell them how to get it is evil speak. This isn't a thread about some new movie and me giving people exact instructions on where to find, and how to get it.

My main intention for this thread anyway is just to say that winmx is awesome, it's still here, are there any former or current users in the forums, or just people who would like to discuss the client in general?

It may be the best P2P client (I sincerely doubt it, but that is beside the point), but P2P is still P2P and that's why it is worth as much as the bowels of a rotting horse carcass.

Incorrect, or at least in my opinion p2p is very valuable. It's really an amazing technology. P2p has already changed the way that big software companies implement file sharing themselves. P2p is also a reliable easy way to send files over long distances.
