3DS Max animation help needed
Hi guys, I'm not sure who here animates in Max but I could use a hand with this.

So I'm animating new art for some weapons, in the FS1 style. The model moves, then stops, then moves. I've done this with the keyframes, and flattened out the tangents where it's supposed to be still... and yet it still wobbles. I've tried everything I can think of and there's no reason why it should be doing this, or how I can stop it.

Below are three screenshots showing my predicament. As you can see at the keyframes it's perfectly OK, but in the middle it wobbles. Any ideas?

Well, I've hacked in a solution by copying the keyframes one frame inwards, so now the wiggle occurs in a space of zero frames and the thing stays put. It's still a strange thing to be happening though.

I've had some experience with animating, but I have no idea what you're talking about. What do you mean 'it wobbles'? Can you render a short vid?

I think by 'wobble' it means it still tries to make the motion 'smooth' by having it keep rotating after the position where he wants it to stop and then goes back to the position he wants. I wouldn't have a clue on how to fix it though.

However, I really like your Akehton SDG model. :) But I assume that it's for something like the VLL-9 or the UD-1 Volz?

The screen shots show the wobble. You can see at the frames at either end, it's in the right place, and between them, the motion curve is flat--yet the object is still moving (the Akheton is in a different position in the frame in the middle.) This issue is for the CB Ani I'm rendering for the Akheton but will be relevant for others.

Re: 3DS Max animation help needed
Long shot, but I find that sometimes it pays to ask the obvious:

Have you set the position of the keyframes by sliding or right-clicking on them? If it's the former, do the latter. It allows more accuracy. You might have set the start and end of the 'stable' period at slightly different heights...

Like I said, a long shot  ;).

Oh, and make sure the keyframes on the different axes line up vertically (right-click on them and check their frames)...

I'm a 3d animator and explaining you how to do it, whit words is hard ... but i can tell you that you will need to make 2 render of your animation one whit the texture and the other in wire frame. then just make the.
by the way i made a animation for your in 30 mins  ( whit the best FS2 weapons model ever ;) )

don't be afraid to put more key for fix a problem or make a smooth the animation

here the video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zn1o_MA8vAU

and here the F-curve

have a nice day

Re: 3DS Max animation help needed
I don't really like that curve. I prefer smooth, single-stage transitions, while yours has a definite wobble. Still, I like what you did with your little animation.

Unfortunately it doesn't address MY problem one bit.

Re: 3DS Max animation help needed
i don't really enderstand  wen you said wobble... i think the real word you need to use is you want a overshoot.

if is that and you really want to stay whit limited key
try whit this options activated

after just take the small handle and modify your curve

for breaking the curve press shift when you take the handle

i hope this is help ,sorry i need time to figure out what you wanted  :D
but if you still have problem you can send me your .max and i will see what i can made (i use max 2009 no sp1)
personally i never use the F-Curve because charter studio don't use-it

Edit: if you check a bit my youtube channel you will see that i know 3d max for animation
