Indeed, something like this would be nice to have at winter time.

Weighs 3050 kg, dont't even want to think about the price, heh.

I meant something more like this:

Damn it is hard to find a picture of a correct sized stove. I think even that one is a little bit small.

Found one after some searching:

Houses that have these stoves (usually old), sport also some additional stoves in rooms should the temperature drop more in there.

Ah yes, the traditional models :)
One more classic on the same note. Hugely popular at its time:

Its hard to come by those nowadays. I guess they were quite good at getting rid of them at 70's or so.
Can't blame them much, tho.

Are those stoves metallic?

Our stoves here are generally made of stone and their sizes are more like 2 m x 2 m x 4 m. It is larger since the hot smoke is circulated around the outer walls of the stove. This causes one extra warmth collection phase. It is pretty neat heating system, and there is no need to wake up at night to add more wood.

One of my colleagues joked he engineered his house in a way he can get through the winter with 5 cubic meters of burning wood.

i helped do alot of an overhaul on a moble home in juneau. probibly the first summer i was there did the exterior. new ply, new insulation, new windows, tyvec, the works. it had been covered in sheet metal. we proibibly did one wall at a time. stripped the metal, re-insulated and reframed the areas around the new windows. then we dropped plywood from the roof all the way to the dirt. once that was done, we just surrounded t he building with a 2 foot wedge of dirt to seal the bottom. after that oil usage went from 4 tanks a winter to 1. and before i left i did most of the interior drywalling (all that was really left was about 25% of the mudwork).  he said he expected that to bring it down to about 3/4 tank a year. i think we went through 50 or so tubes of caulk on that place, filling in all the holes. still thats something id rather never have to do ever again. made a ****load of cash at that place though. (all under the table of course :D )

Yes the ones i posted were all metallic. There's stone ones too from what i raed here, not a bad idea. That'd be funny if someone made a wood burning wood stove. LMFAO, talk about one time use

I'm starting to feel very glad that I don't come from the land of the ice and snow.  We get by just fine with an electric heat pump. :p

Wow, I WISH -5 C was "cold" here. I'd love to have temps of -5 for most of the winter. It's been consistently between -20C and -30C here for the better part of the last month.

I'm very much a summer person.  I tolerate winter...but this one has been colder and longer than most.  I suppose I can't complain with all of the Alaska types on here talking about -50 (and at that point F and C don't make much different :)).  Thats damn cold.  But frankly I'm sick of even the -15c plus windchill we keep getting. At least we're seeing some of the sun...the cold is alright so long as we get some sun to make the place look alright.

Can't wait for spring rain.  I'd rather cloud, rain and +15c than this.  Much happier in the rain myself.

I don't know where you are exactly but where i am it's above zero right now. the 90 km/h winds cool it down a little though but hey - at least it's sunny :D

I used to think that rain was cool. Then I got pneumonia. Now I think that rain is cool as long as I can stay inside drinking tea when it's raining.

As a person whose main transportation vessel is a 7-geared bicycle, I concur that rain is not cool. Not at all.

I use to ride my bike all the time in winter. Just stopped doing it because it's tedious. In my older post i reflected on all my winter gear with back pack and mp3 player with ice. In general i stopped doing it because it's easier to walk around in winter even though a bike is still faster (and the bike at my disposal right now is embarrassing). I don't mind rain at all even if i'm wearing a tank top. But, one thing i really can't seem to handle is being tossed out into the middle of a cold lake. I'll be swimming in it all day long just graet and having fun. The next day i'll have a cold. The day after i'll be fine. I just never jump into cold water anymore. Rain is doable though.
