Re: Nursery Rhyme abuse - again
Wow.

On a totally unrelated note, while I can remember my parents reading some of these when I was a bit younger, I better remember reading Roald Dahl's Revolting Rhymes at a slightly later age (maybe 9,10?). Here's one I can remember from then (I don't know why, but this one has stuck with me a while!):

Quote
I had a little nut tree
Nothing would it bear
I looked in all its branches
But not a nut was there
I asked 'O little Tree
just give me a few'
The little tree looked down at me
and said 'Nuts to you'

However, a study in 2004 showed that nursery rhymes exposed children to far more violent incidents than an average evening watching television - including Humpty Dumpty's serious head injury.

Last year, a story based on the Three Little Pigs fairy tale was turned down by a government agency's awards panel as the subject matter could offend Muslims.

Let me guess. No one actually thought to ask a Muslim if this was actually offensive but simply assumed since they can't eat pork that they might be offended.

People need to be offended. Eventually, some of them might question why they are so mad over something so completely ****ing infantile.

Re: Nursery Rhyme abuse - again
So let me get this straight...

A mention of sailor in inebriated state is not acceptable for a nursery rhyme, but instead a bad-tempered pirate is acceptable?

They leave a sailor - which is a very honorable profession in the end of the day - on the shore and replace him with a pirate? A person whose profession mainly consists of plundering, pillaging and ravaging (aside from sailing)?

What insanity motivates these people I shall probably never find out, and that's likely a good thing... :blah:

EDIT: It's not even a nursery rhyme to begin with. It's a sea shanty. :wtf:

Children around here (in my part of the US) are no longer sitting "Indian Style", or with their legs crossed.  They are now sitting "Criss-Cross Apple Sauce"

Manhole covers being renamed "Personnel Access Units" to avoid offending women.

Seriously :wtf: grow some balls. Some people really need to swallow some cement and 'Harden the **** up' if nothing else does it for them. There was also some talk over here a few years ago about not commemorating 'ANZAC Day' (day named after the 'Australian New Zealand Army Corps, a force who got slaughtered by the numbers in WW1 over in Turkey, but represented the first time Aus went to war) in schools because it may 'Offend Turkish Students'. When a country's national holidays are at stake over P.C. something is seriously wrong with the people suggesting it.

Re: Nursery Rhyme abuse - again
hmm restricting holidays as not to offend people is way extreme. That'd be like over here in america if people were to ban veterans day as to not offend the many nationalities of people living here that my country warred with in the past.

Every pilot's goal is to rise up in the ranks and go beyond their purpose to a place of command on a very big ship. Like the colossus; to baseball bat everyone.

"Personnel Access Units" sounds wrong though when you think about it in the context of offending women.

;) , if anything, they just made it sound worse.

Now women aren't manholes, they're Personal Access Units

I have no idea why the feminists haven't been all over that one yet

Re: Nursery Rhyme abuse - again
Personally i wouldn't have ever seen manhole covers being retermed due to not offend the female populace. Manhole would seem to be more of a prison slang with manhole cover along with it.
