Or... you could use debit and spend the money you actually have. This is a very mature, adult thing to do, I believe.  :p

Far less safe, though. Anyone with access to your card can clean out your account entirely. Credit cards have protection.

This coming from a debit card user (don't want to get into the soup of credit card selection yet.)

Every pilot's goal is to rise up in the ranks and go beyond their purpose to a place of command on a very big ship. Like the colossus; to baseball bat everyone.

...huh?

I've never suffered any problems with a debit card, never had my account cleaned out, nothing like that. It doesn't change the fact that it's far easier for it to happen. I don't buy stuff online because of the risk of info being intercepted, for instance.

Is there any way I can buy stuff on non-PayPal sites with a debit card? I've heard of ways that you can get some kind of "combo card" that can act as a credit card when you need to use one online.

If your debit card has a credit card logo on it, you should be able to use it wherever a credit card would be accepted. It's good to exercise some caution, though—as others have mentioned already, regular credit cards carry a lot more protection against fraud than debit cards do.

Here in the UK there are new kind of cards that you can top up with credit and spend online, in stores etc. just like a credit card or debit card and you just top it up like a pay as you go phone! That way no one can take any more than you have topped up the card by. Good idea I think!
