You can see him in sync in that subspace mission if you get you use your afterburners enough with maxed out engine power. Then you can make out the pegasus, but yeah, you don't get to get too close to it.
Every pilot's goal is to rise up in the ranks and go beyond their purpose to a place of command on a very big ship. Like the colossus; to baseball bat everyone.

He was in the first mission as well, a mysterious contact who tells you to jump out before the Corvettes.
