I assume you're using Outlook Express...?

Make a blank entry in your address book, with the name "0000" (those are zeros). Don't give it an email address.

What happens is that most of these viruses mail themselves to the first X amount of people in your address book. With this dummy entry, your email will not be sent, as it will pop-up a message complaining that the entry doesn't have an email address. That should warn you enough so that you can do a comprehensive virus scan. :)

This worm could possibly be the "SO-FUNNY" Worm i encountered in America Online. it was the same subject but this was a EXE that u downloaded. it does the same thing by mailing itself to the friends on ur buddy list or address book. the best thing to do is scan it first then get it. if its hotmail its possibly u aint get in Thunder cause MSN uses "the latest" (notice i quoted it lol) in anti-virus software. Persoanlly i use Norton 2002 but ima get Norton XP if it comes out. I so far have not encountered this new WORM its possibly a time delay worm.

A virus masquerading as one of those circulating online jokes that never die? Hell, I delete those emails without opening them in the first place! Viruses got nothin' on having to read the comprehensive collection of tired, devatstatingly unfunny engineer jokes for the 30th time in a row.

I take it this only works through hotmail/outlook express?

I only use hotmail as a back up email address, in case i have things i don't want on my normal one.  And i never use outlook, i even uninstall it if i can.

Firstly: Stop spamming everyone, it's not funny or clever and it's getting annoying when it comes to finding decent thread content around here. Especially since this was posted with the idea of helping people out in mind.

Yes, I use Hotmail - I don't care, it's never served me wrong and I make use of the MSN messanger service with my college friends which is one more reason to own the account.

There's more information on the virus - it can be found here: http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/js.menger.worm.html

The link won't be removed - the idea of providing it all was that people could see exactly what they were looking for in this thing and what to avoid. Theres no point in doing that if the link is removed since the content could change but the link would most likely stay the same.

Besides, if your stupid enough to actually click the link then you deserve everything you get. Accidents I can sympathise with but I've made it obvious that the link isn't for clicking - just reference and anyone who clicks it should've taken better caution.

I'm locking this thread so it's here for future reference but this level of spam is simply not getting it anywhere. I'm disappointed in many of you for this kinda thing - they say all forums have spam but this is pathetic. I hope it improves.
