A sort of different docking question
I considered posting this in the other docking topic recently but what I had in mind far too detracts from its subject so here this goes:

I don't know if I'm going to do it or not but some fighters in my universe lack a subspace drive to conserve weight and energy and rely on carriers.... and special devices to launch them into battle through subspace. Imagine something like this but with fighters instead of missiles http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9GmkZ6WUYNU#t=2m19s.

During the start of a mission you are docked to a disposable device that warps you and your wing into the area. For a few seconds the player cannot move and the device is moving rapidly. Then the wing is launched and the device self destructs.

At the end of the mission (whether it went good or bad) another device is warped in and the wing has to dock with it then it warps out completing the mission.  Can the player ship actually dock to something, remain immobile, and be warped out?

Granted this idea isn't too vital to the overall scheme of things but it is something which I think will look very very nice in a campaign. If its possible, all the better  ;). If not, oh well I'll just slap subspace drives into everything :p.
I have created a masterpiece.

Re: A sort of different docking question
Sounds like it wouldn't be a disposable platform.. I would rather go for a reusable one.

When I first read your post I thought you meant a fighter being fired away by a railgun that made it enter subspace as soon as it cleared the ships gravity well.

You might need to use sexps for that, WoD has a behaviour just like that for the first mission where fighters are linked up with a bigger warship in order to jump.

Yeah this could be done easily enough by putting the player under AI control.

Re: A sort of different docking question
Actually, WoD linking doesn't involve docking. It is possible though.

SexPs are awesome. I'll have to play WoD then to see it for myself.
