The Deimos is the flying brick of death. It's been stated plenty of times.
The only other ship I've seen in FS2 that comes close to the same design is the Iceni. However, all the brown textures and such, along with the curved nose, makes it lose that effect.
But yeah, I do have to agree, it needs some industrial sized rotating missle turrets. In fact, all of the Terran ships should have them. Because look at today's ships, almost every ship has either a set harpoon-style missle launching tubes, a 'cell' of 8-32 multi-purpose missles recessed in the hull, or BOTH. The closest thing to it in FS2 is the Cain/Lillith classes with the large ring areas on the sides where they have the cluster launchers.
Granted, most ships today are gearing towards the missle boat look, but they're more effective than simple bombardment of one-ton shells that only have a range of 20 miles. (16" guns from the Iowa class Battleships. Dunno what the range was for the 19" critters on the Yamato, but it was probably similar as they didn't have the same system the americans did, though they were slower in firing rates.)
Err, back to what I was talking about earlier. Turreted missle launchers! Yeah. Multi-firing pointed, retractable, no-flashy details, just the glint off the plated armor and a shine of the big smiley faces painted on each warhead....
