You're going to need to go into your Nvidia control panel and set up a profile for FreeSpace Open that's set to use your GT 650M since it clearly isn't defaulting to that card.

The drivers of your GPU are set up to detect only the programs it knows of. After all, what are the chances that among the thousands of random programs that exist and that aren't a known official game, one will need the GPU over your intelgrated ?
