See if you can find a place that repairs scratched CDs,  deruberhanyok.  If you lived in Vancouver, I'd give you directions to one, but I'm not so familiar with, er..., Chi Draconis 7.
Sesqu... Sesqui... what?

Well, I tried altering the table file but it doesn't seem to work. VP View worked fine and viewing the file with the tbl viewer worked okay (although I had to edit the file with notepad.)

The line in the table specifies a disc number that the cutscenes are on. I tried changing it to the game directory on the hard drive, but that didn't work, I would click the 'play cutscene' button in the tech room and nothing happened. Changing the file name didn't do it either. I also tried changing both but no luck there.

Okay I went and had a look at the posting that had made me suggest looking at the cutscene.tbl and I found this.

Okay so sandwich is talking about the movies from the FS1 intro so that they work with the FS1Port but it shows that information in the data\movies dir superceeds anything on the CD.

If that doesn`t help try looking at this thread.

Sounds like kind of a silly reason to take the game off of the shelves. I mean, the Quake games are still being sold.

sesquipedalian - yeah, I've tried repairing it with one of those 'game doctor' thingies. It's pretty much a dead CD.

I was going to list "City 7" as my location, but didn't know if anyone would get the Macross reference. "Chi Draconis 7" is just a really geeky way of referring to the Minbari homeworld (B5). I've changed it to something a bit more recognizable. ^_^

karajorma - thank you. I got them working. I put all the movie files in the data/movies directory and that didn't work at first, it still wouldn't detect my CD #2.

However, I then edited the cutscene.tbl file to say that all of the cutscenes were on Disc 3. So now, I can put in Disc 3, and it plays the cutscenes off of the hard drive, only checking to see if Disc 3 is present. The intro works, all the monologues, even the ending, and they all read off of the hard disk - there's no CD drive activity at all, even for the ones that are on disc three (I had copied those over to the hard drive a while ago). So I guess with the directory being a sort of 'override' and the cutscene.tbl file telling it to look for only one disc, all the movies will play.

I guess it's a good thing I had those files on the hard drive, then. Thanks to your suggestion I seem to have solved my problem. :D

Ah, sweet victoly!

Hmm... I wonder if this would work for FS1? Or maybe there's a way to make the game not look for any disc for the cutscenes?

Why not Battle 7? (Unless you are a civillian)

I had thought about doing a Macross 7 mod where Alpha 1 had to support  Nekki Basara and Sound Force. (maybe even get some Karekoe in and make you help sing against the Protodevlin) But don't think this is the right time for that, plus I can't sing, plus I am way too bust anyway...

Yeah. Now you see why I mentioned the cutscenes table. I knew it would be important somewhere in fixing this problem :D

I don`t know how to edit it so that it doesn`t look for any disk but considering the amount I play FS1 & 2 fixing it so that it only needs one of the disks regardless of which game I play sounds like a good idea :)
The only problem is that both games use the same filename for the intro but it shouldn`t be hard to fix the FS2 campaign file to play a renamed FS2 intro before mission one.

Idunno if that would work. I mean, the tbl files are the same but the game might be looking for the different discs; FS1 looking for FS1 and FS2 for FS2. But I think I might be missing something here - why would you need to rename the intro file? The games install in different directories.

Star Dragon - heheh, that would be cool. It's silly, really, but I can't watch the series with any of my friends because I have a tendency to start singing along whenever Basara starts singing, and that annoys them. Even the ones that really like animé won't watch it with me, most don't want to have anything to do with it. I don't understand them.

I'm surprised, though. It seems to me that finding someone who knows about Macross 7 - let alone someone who likes it - is sort of a rare occasion.

Not if you`re playing the FSport :)

I just looked that up on google. Now that's a cool port. I think I've definitely been away from this for way too long. I'm downloading it now - definitely want to give it a play. So it plays the movies from FS1 in the game as well? What a cool mod...

Ooh, fresh blood!

You shouldn't let your disks get so scratched you can't use them, that's what. You can always tell when it's getting close, and that's when you burn a backup CD, or move the stuff onto your comp. Try a different computer, with a CD burner and a better CD drive (there are a good number that won't fail to read the disk except in the presence of inconvieniently large cracks, meaning one step away from two halves of a CD).

Hell, I've still got the old FS1 demo manual sitting here in front of me, and the boxes for FS1 and 2, dammit, I'm a packrat

By the way, if anyone's gonna be making copies of the FS1 and 2 disks around here, could you make me one, too? Mine were stolen, along with the rest of my games. Don't ask. I don't think there should be any questioning my original possession of the game, in this case.

Doesn't matter, remember? We can make copies of the game on a no-cost noncommercial basis for friends and aquaintances. I dunno who'd count as the first qualification (an0n, perhaps?), but I think (*looks at postcount*) - scratch that: I know everyone on HLP is in some way aquainted with you. ;)

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

"The very essence of tolerance rests on the fact that we have to be intolerant of intolerance. Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill

Hmmm... when did I get up in the 4000s? Cool!

And thanks. I think I'm still going to have to hurt the person who stole them on principle, but hey, he had it coming...
