uld have been nearly impossible to blow audiences away visually like SW did with 1977 cartoon animation. Lucas's background was in live action (he was basically riding the wave of good will/greed from the huge success of American Graffiti) , so I dunno if Fox would have backed an animated feature even if he had wanted to do it that way. Anyway, the scale and the detail and the lived-in look would all have been really hard to achieve in a cartoon.

Star wars did do a great job of blowing people away with visual live action. However, there are several great animated pieces from the late 70's and 80's. I will bring up one though. 1983's conan fire and ice. It may not have been the greatest movie, but the animation and the graphics are spectacular. Seeing star wars with this kind of animation i believe would be a real treat.

I am not saying i wish star wars was a ralph bakshi presents feature. Just the collaboration between him and frank frazetta for nothing more than animating star wars if it was to be animated.

Most of the things that make the Thrawn Trilogy a decent set of books would probably make them bad movies. Except Thrawn, possibly.

I heartily disagree.

Reading that graphic novel was very compelling evidence that the Thrawn trilogy has great potential to be made into good movies.

That apparently won't happen, though.

I remember reading the Thrawn trilogy in a comic book (an excellent one, btw) and not in a novel format. I have my doubts it would render a good movie. It's clear there were some good concepts that didn't make it in the "translation" of formats and that would be absolutely lost in the movie format.
