Problem with XP Home and folders
At some point when I owned this computer, I screwed it up (before I knew what I was doing). So now when I double click to open a folder it opens in a new window. I have the thing checked in Folder Options to open in the same window, but it just won't do it. I think I can fix it if I reset the File Types tab, but I don't know how. Anybody know how to help me out?

Surely somebody knows what I've done to my computer?

EDIT: Let me rephrase that:
Surely somebody knows how I have ****ed my computer?

XP, yah?

General-->Browse Folders-->Open each in same window

View-->Advanced settings--> uncheck "Launch folder windows in a separate process"

Umm, reset to defaults and apply settings to all folders...

That's all I can think of (it's 5:15AM), dunno if it'll help.

No idea how you have managed to f**k up your system, in these cases reinstall is always the best solution.

Or then you can try system restore if you have had it enabled.

It won't. All that setting does (or is supposed to do, 2000 was the only Windows that I've noticed it work right in. It's not something I'd go back to that POS for though) is seperate the EXPLORER.EXE process used for the desktop from the EXPLORER.EXE processes used for the folder windows the idea being that if the folder windows hang or otherwise crash, they won't take the desktop (and in particular, the system tray) with them. It doesn't have any bearing on the issue Solatar is having.

Done all that.:)
As for a system restore, I might try that because reinstall isn't really an option right now.:D

While on the topic of XP Home, anyone know how to get it to stop opening up drives in new windows from My Computer?

Just because you can build a car, it doesn't mean you know how to drive.

Dunno if this'll help but you might want to try opening up regedit, descending to the key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam\

and deleting the 'Bags' and 'BagMRU' sections. You'll have to reapply any folder customisations by hand afterward but it may be enough to get your folders right again.

Thanks, I'll try it.

EDIT: It didn't fix it, but it didn't break anything as far as I can see either.:D
