Back from Reading festival
What a thorougly insane weekend that was. Managed to see a lot more bands this year though I couldn't really get involved due to the heat (don't really enjoy massive de-hydration) and was really suprised to find that Beck (I enjoy some of his stuff but not that much) was one of my favourite acts of the weekend.

Also, Winnebago Deal are one of the best straight out rock and roll bands I've ever seen, a guitarist and a drummer and they were so ****ing loud it was fantastic.
What frequency are you getting? Is it noise or sweet sweet music? - Refused - Liberation Frequency.

I'll just copy / paste in what I posted on Th3 B4r since I'm to lazy to rewrite it. If only I'd known people were going from HLP and TB!

After one hell of a hard time getting in (went up too early to get a ticket at the box office so ended up buying what turned out to be a fake from a tout) I finally managed to get enough money together to buy a second ticket (thanks to friends) and got in alright. My bank account is crippled but it was definitely worth it!
Where abouts were you camped out AJK? We were in Yellow E (I think it was E) and if you were anywhere close you might have seen our little hedge war :D

Anyhow, enough about all that - on to the bands.

The Good:
The Cooper Temple Clause were, in my opinion, the best of the lot. Firstly because I love the music and secondly because they had such a powerful performance - the Radio 1 tent was packed out for them and a friend and I managed to crowd surf our way out to "Been Training Dogs" which just made the whole experience that much better.

Metallica kicked ass. I've not been a consistently huge fan of them but I loved everything I heard and it made standing about for the entire 2 hour set incredibly worth it - especially for the firework display at the end of the set. The second encore for Enter Sandman was incredible and although I didn't really get involved in the mosh end of things - the entire crowd singing along was really something special. In addition to the great songs were some rather funny little episodes such as the drummer / bassists tribute to The White Stripes - The Black Stripes. For Whom The Bells Tolls was incredible.

Electric Six - everyone down here is something of a fan of them for their wacky lyrics, and the lead singing Dick Valentine is a really nice guy if you ever get to meet him (we managed to get backstage at their Concorde 2 gig in Brighton). The whole crowd went mad for Gay Bar and Danger (High Voltage).

Linkin Park - I was dead on my feet when I got around to going to see them, but even standing a huge distance back from the main stage it was still a great set. I've not been a massive fan of them either but I certainly like them a lot more for seeing them live - its moved them away from the teen angst / townie image that they have had amongst my friends and I down here.

System Of A Down - incredible. I've always liked them but like Linkin Park they're often associated with being liked by "the wrong sort" around here but seeing them live has also changed all that. They put on a really powerful performance and also had some funny little bits in between. Great Stuff.

The Bad:
Good Charlotte - I avoided them like the plague, some friends and I even went so far as to go and congratulate a random punk who had "Good Charlotte Suck, You're Everything Thats Wrong With The Music Industry" written on a piece of cardboard just before they started playing.

Blur - I'll be honest, I didn't stick around for the entire set - I was kinda tired and not in the best shape to stand around for their 2 hour set. That said, I was really hoping for lots of the good old songs that everyone loved - granted Song 2, Parklife and others were played but I was really hoping for more and some of their quieter stuff ended up nearly putting me to sleep.

There were others, but those are the ones that really stuck out in my mind. That and the waking up on monday morning to the sound of half a dozen large explosions as full cooking gas cannisters went off all around the campsite. Overall? Best weekend I've had in living memory - I'm sad it's over. Bring on next year!

You were on yellow E. I was yellow I by the giant citroen flag (the red one with the upward pointing chevrons)

Electric six were ace as were sytem of a down, it is sad that SOAD get a bad rep cause they are fantastic live and my neck is in agony due to the furious headbanging I participated in. Me and my girl also divulged in some magic mushrooms (her first time, my fifth) and I would advise against doing them at a festival quite simply because the sheer volume of people make it a complete mind****.

What bands did you see altogether?

I remember seeing that flag several times - I was by the hedge at the north of Yellow where the hedge war was going on (my tent was the HQ for our side... suprise suprise).

As for me - I think the only drugs I indulged in was alcohol - I'm not the drugs type really, but it's all good if you like that kind of thing :) I agree about the number of people though - sometimes it was kinda smothering since you couldn't be anywhere without being around someone else except for the wonderful toilet facilities that were around the place.. ;)
