[color=66ff00]Ok kudos to the guys that built the master chief armour, nice and accurate but seriously... the price is feckin mental, if it was totally finished i.e. just needed spraying then maybe but $1700!?!

Secondly, I wouldn't pay more that £150 ($220-ish I think) for that colonial marines armour, the casts are pretty damn loose in the accuracy and looks department, If I were paying that kind of money I'd expect to see almost finished pieces (cut to shape, almost ready to paint).

Lastly, both of these armour sets are built around some guy's (hopefully average) bodyframe so they're not likely to fit so well on others. (best guess from the photos of the ppl wearing them).

If you think you can find that kind of stuff cheaper, well... you need to have a reality check :p

I doubt even my Halo-nut friend Oz would buy that suit! He just wouldn't find the money. :D

[color=66ff00]I have no illusions that it would be hard to find the armour cheaper but the market isn't exactly competitive with this kind of thing.

The point I'm trying to make is the materials and time involved in making these do not warrant the price, I have a decent amount of background in sculpting and vac-forming to know that the price being charged is exorbant but I guess the merchandise you're paying for is a bit of a superflous item in the first place. Of course it's simply my opinion; those guys building the halo armour are doing a good job and are free to charge whatever they think they can get away with.

The marine armour is just flat out poor though.

yeah, I know, I have experience in garage kits ( resin figures ), and I know how it works. And the thing is, when the good is not to be sold in large numbers ( just like thiose armors ), and when they're manufactured more or less on an artisanal level, the price for the final thing can go up to more than 500%. This things aren't meant for "us", they're meant for wackos who are willing to pay for those, and, trust me, they will sell ( my guess is that they have a dozen of those max, and will build more only if asked. Most of the price is there to pay the mold ).

[color=66ff00]About a year ago I gave it some serious consideration but time and funding were not on my side then or at present, uni is my first priority at the moment and will be for quite some time so most of my modelmaking exploits have been on the modest scale. I just got a B5 Starfury kit off ebay, it's going to be my next plaything.

A whole body cast (Which I reckon is almost necessary for the trooper armour considering its design) and all the sculpting that would be involved in making a good set of armour templates is a time consuming task. Once your template is fabricated you could crank out ABS (preferably) or styrene parts fairly quickly.
I'm having a hard time getting around to working on my proton pack which is scratch built from MDF, PVC and a lot of other stuff, it needs about a week of work to get into a usable shape I think.

Damn, so many things I want to do are overshadowed by the volume of things I have to do. :blah:
