Haven't read throught the entire thread, but considering the pictures I saw, I can say you have made an excellent art job.
And don't try to see Mr. Obvious in me, I was just telling my opinion.

Nicely all round. I never understood the problm people seem to have with lensflares - sure they're a little overused, but sometimes they do add to a picture...
