Still remember you could have two Voodoo 2's running simultaneously in your 'puter?
Well, nVidia brought it back in PCI-E form.

Now to wait for "ATI Strikes Back" and "Return of nVidia".

no, sli is not back
I can no longer sit back and allow communist infiltration, communist indoctrination, communist subversion, and the international communist conspiracy to sap and impurify all of our precious bodily fluids.

Hmmmmmmmmmm... that may be set up for a different monitor plug ;) I notice an HDTV connector though :)

Nice, but give it two years and single cards will run faster at this rate ;)

Well, if the 70-80% unoptimized figures are actually correct, then it may be bit longer than that.

The voodoo2 SLI gave less than that and allowed users to skip the next generation pretty much.

Crazy expensive though.  However, 6800GT SLi does soun juicy without breaking the bank as badly.

Anyone planning to get this should wait a bit for nForce4 to come out so that you won't have to buy dual Xeons.

Thats four PCI slots gone - right there! Not to mention the cost involved.

Sorry, but this doesn't seem ideal for the average gamer. Power users / kids with to much money and to little sense only.

Well, for today it would be a bit extreme anyway, that'd rip the image in half without VSync on just about any non-commerical applications, so you'd still need to limit your frame rate. This could be useful for OpenGL ultra-high poly modelling, but it's certainly far more powerful than any game would require :)

Of course, what do we need pci-e slots for anyways?

All the new chipsets pretty much come with the sound and lan integrated anyways.

Unless you have a lot of drives in your system, you won't need more than 1 or 2 pcie slots anyways besides the graphics 16x slot.

In any case, this obviously isn't for the average gamer.  the V2 sli wasn't either.

However, I feel it's been announced too early since pcie hasn't even taken off yet.

And if nvidia allows the 6800NU's to support this, then coupled with the nf4 chipset, it suddenly becomes quite attractive.

I know this isn't exactly on topic, but I remember once hearing about the ASP or Advanced (Accelerated?) Sound Port being developed, which allowed massively enhanced sound performance through higher data transfer rates, enhanced sound support etc....

Does anyone ever know if this ever happened or whether it was just more technological sand in the wind?
