The more I think about the more I don't think a water balloon could break the windshield.  It's not like the kid threw it hard or anything either...  What pisses me off about this, I didn't touch a water balloon(I have 7 or 8 witnesses) or anything, but the cop still says I'm guilty because I was with them, damn the US law system.

This is why you always just say, as loud as possible and in a suggestive-to-friends manner: "We were just walking past when [Guy the Copys Saw Whom You Have Never Seen Before] threw the balloon at the car".

My dad did that once with a coin - there was a businessman who used to tear through his town years ago (when he was younger) - doing about 50mph in a 30 limit (20 advised) area. He flicked a coin onto the bonnet of the car as it passed.. it shattered the windshield.

Yeah - the guy was ok. Damages repaid and all that. The guy sure as hell stopped speeding though.

It's amazing how weak glass in cars is these days. A small pebble (~1mm, we're talking real small here) is enough to smash the rear glass pretty efficiently, when the car isn't even moving. I know because I accidentally broke the rear window of my mum's car by casually flicking such a pebble off the bottom of my shoe around 5m away from said car.

It's as if they design the glass to break - you could buy a pretty darned decent second-hand car for the amount they charge you to replace just one pane.

yeah two years ago i was weed-eating the yard, and our weedeater has the feature that when you tap it on the ground, it lets like 3 inches of string out.  so i tapped it, and as the nylon came out, it must've caught a pebble and launched it, because across the street the neighbor's new Ford Explorer's back window just shattered.  we found a little pebble inside.  it's amazing how a tiny little thing can shatter the entire window.  but then again, they're designed like that, so i guess it's good ;)

new one cost $500.00.  his insurance paid :p

Glass shattering can't be safe if you wreck...then again it's better than huge shards...

I must've said it wrong, it didn't shatter the glass, just cracked it.  Too bad they don't have a way to fix cracks for 20-30 bucks, but instead have to replace the whole thing.
