Jesus - they were never lesbian lovers, stop being silly. The japanese suffixes they use for each other are familial, the same you'd use for a sister or close cousin. Having watched both the OVA, the series, and read the manga (although that diverges quite heavily from the main plotline) there's really nothing there to comment on, but then again people love reading homosexual subtexts into anime, for whatever reason.
With regarads to the actual work: I loved it! Especially the OVA, which seriously should have been a theatrical release - you could pretty much replace crap like the LEG (League of Extraordinary Gentlemen) movie with it.
The series is also a favourite, up to the last two episodes or so, where they had the typical anime muddled plotlines and aspects left unresolved. However, the earlier episodes, anita at school, the sisters bonding, and yes, many of the interesting plot twists make it more than a worthwhile view.
