I'm seriously considering applying for a business loan, knocking out a few hundred thousand boxed packs of high-quality playing cards and selling them to every shop, store and retail outlet within a 50 mile radius.

If I get 200,000 packs of full-colour, double-sided, double-laminated, laminate-boxed, kickass playing cards - they cost roughly £20k or about 10p per pack.

I could hock 'em for at least £1 per pack and make £180k. Assuming I could find enough shops to seel 200k packs of cards to. But it shouldn't be THAT hard. And I've only gotta sell maybe 25k of them to cover the business loan.

Unless by 'a few' you mean 'a few dozen', looks like this is either going to be real expensive or real dead.

Overall, for a 52-card deck of double-sided, unlaminated, 85mm x 55mm, 3mm corner rounded, unboxed cards - it's gonna cost [per deck]:

100 decks - £20.75
250 decks - £9.82
500 decks - £5.99
1250 decks - £4.40

Decent boxes add about another £1/pack to the price.

On matt-laminated, which I highly recommend, it comes to:

100 decks - £29.40
250 decks - £13.40
500 decks - £8.00
1250 decks - £5.50

Plus another £1/pack for boxes.

I could ditch the Playing-Cards idea and just get 20 card sets done in a higher quantity (say 500 [less cards = less cost = more affordable = more purchases = more runs = 500 sold easy]) and hock 'em for £4.20 a pack.

Would seem to be a better idea ATM.

I would buy. You should e-bay them also. You should probably shop around around a little more, you may be able to find a cheaper publisher somewhere.

Yeah, start with a smaller set. No sense making a big set for no one to use.

I might leave the playing-card bits on anyway, just incase I ever get the chance to expand it.

Right, assuming a 20-card pack of 3mm rounded corner, double-sided, matt-laminate, 400gm, 85mm x 55mm cards:

100 decks - £8.50
250 decks - £3.90
500 decks - £2.50

Oh and I doubt customized HLP cards would sell on eBay too great.

If I get 'em, I'll get 'Limited Edition' printed on the back of 'em all to trick the random card collectors into buying more.

Hmmm. If I drop the rounded-corners, I can get 'em printed 21 cards to an A3 sheet, then cut - all for around £500 for a 100 run.

So £5 per pack, plus maybe £1 for the boxes. A hundred at £5 a pop ain't great, but it's less money to lay out on my part.

And I might still even be able to get the corners rounded. I'd have to speak to the printers on the phone about that one though.

Get an admin to send an email to everyone who's been active here in the last year or something - that might get some interest going. Some people only look at certain forums (SCP and TBP come to mind) so a more general announcement would be useful.

I think these are combination playing cards/TCG cards, as each person has to choose a suit and number.

At the very least, they'll be novelty Top Trumps cards.

And if they sell well enough they'll be a game and eventually a set of playing cards.

Like I said, though. The more I get printed at once, the cheaper they'll be and the more I can get done per pack.

Well, customer service was no help.

I asked how many cards could fit into a B1 box (the designation of their smallest standard box) and they said 500.

Now, for those of you who don't understand the ****-up here: A B1 is the same size as a MTG box. The cards are the same size as MTG cards.
