Find me Cheap MiniPCs
Right lads, I've taken a liking to these new MiniATX form machines, they're so space saving and cool looking.... ahem, anyway, I want one for my business work (which includes multimedia dev work) but the best I can find for those needs is about 800 quid.

Any notions of cheap resources?

Buy a barebone and add the rest of the machine yourself. You could be set for 500 euro's, leaving the monitor out of the picture.

I suggest the Shuttle SN95G5. In fact, that's the one I plan on getting in the next few months.

Not exactly the cheapest system, but how about a FragBox? :D

What sort of specs are you looking for? Processor, video card, and other things along those lines. Once we know that, we can see how cheap we can get this.

2GHz, 1GB Ram, 80GB+ HDD, anything with good 3D support since this is for multimedia authoring,  but if possible something with dual output (to flat panels), and standard sound. USB/Firewire both required obviously.

If I recall anything else I'll update this.

Clave - again, nice try but sadly I need the Win32/64 platform for compiling Director projectors, et al.

Oh man, I love the Mac Mini! I go to the Apple store in the mall just to drool at it. (And buy iPod accessories.)

The upside is that you don't have to buy a new motherboard to increase the FSB speed. You just have to get the guy to exercise more.

For a SFF with those specs, your best bet would be one of the Shuttles.  You have any experience with building computers yourself, or do you need it preassembled?
