This one is fairly simple (I hope).

I have 3 256MB DIMMs of PC2100 DDR RAM. I have 1 256MB DIMM of PC3200 DDR RAM.

Can I mix them both on the same motherboard, assuming that the motherboard can support both types on their own?

Yes, usually.

I believe the worst thing that will happen is your PC won't boot. If that happens, remove the DIMM.

It SHOULD ratchet the RAM speed down to the least common denomicator, so you will not get 3200 speeds from your single DIMM.

Sounds simple enough, but I'd just like to be sure... no actual damage can be done to the rest of the system by doing this, or if it goes wrong, right?

I have done it before and nothing caught fire.

FYI It will ALL run at the speed of the 2100 :)

Nothings likely to catch fire...probably more of a "it won't boot" thing.

Make sure the motherboard supports PC3200 ram just to be sure.

Gotcha.

Well the PC2100 is already in there... I'm going to try each new DIMM on its own one at a time to ensure that it's working, then all together if everything goes well.

Edit:

Well... that was interesting. The first two PC2100 DIMMs caused the machine to bleep like a Jerry Springer show on 4x speed. The third worked fine and is now running alongside the PC3200 DIMM.

Cheers for the advice guys!
