More ID card pullaver
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2005/05/30/us_eu_biometric_id_compatability/

[q]The UK government plans to issue its ID card as a passport with biometric identifiers stored in a chip – and the US wants those chips to be compatible with its own scanners, raising the possibility that US agencies could have access to the ID Card database.[/q]

:sigh:

I need to get out this country quickish.......

I told you I hated England... gah. I don't suppose there's any way to legally avoid being roped into this, is there? Some kind of "it infringes on my personal freedom" type arrangement?

Britain - but I spend the majority of my time in England - so I don't especially care what happens to Scotland, Wales and N.Ireland..

(Don't misunderstand me for not liking these places or the peopel who live in them.. they're simply separate from England as far as I'm concerned).

Recognising we still exist as part of the United Kingdom - willingly or otherwise- would be nice, though.

What he said ^^

Also, this is a technological lemon. There are no clear goals defined in the project brief, there is no contingency for the huge number of people who are either incompatible with, or unable to use, the biometric hardware, and the cost has exploded.

It's no more secure than any other form of ID. It can and will be faked. Making the cards takes literally a few minutes.

Eh, the UK needs a little revolution to get the shitheads out of power. Same with the US. Seriously, if it were my country, I would be angry as hell and more than a bit scared.

We are, all of the above, but there hasn't been a civil war in the UK for a VERY long time. We've always come through the darkest moments in modern history via the democratic process, and people are afraid that once we cross the line that takes us into a revolution, it will be very hard to hold on to the democracy we're trying to save.
