Microsoft nears 'Halo' movie deal

Universal Pictures and Twentieth Century Fox teamed up to make the winning offer that calls for an initial payment of $5 million plus 10 percent of initial box office receipts, sources said, although they cautioned that final details may change.

I'm not sure how I feel about this, but I think Msoft is taking the right approach by putting up such high initial demands, and apparently the Bungie team likes the script (at least Frankie does...)

It would be worse to make the movie and have it stink than to not make any movie at all.

Ugh, $20 bucks says it's awful. Plus, Fox is also making the "Doom" movie, which, if you've read about it, has actually nothing to do with Doom (there's no hell, zombies, or anything like Doom, there's just an "evil viral infection that has turned everyone into zombies").

I just hope it's not **** like 99.9% of other game-based movies.

That's the thing, most game developers are desperate to get their game turned into a movie and are willing to settle for anything, which usually turns the movie into a piece of crap that has nothing to do with the original game. The good thing is, Msoft is demanding a large budget and full creative control from Bungie. If this actually happens, this might actually end up becoming a good game to movie adaption.

It will make tons of money, One All powerful warrior that won't die, blowing thousands of aliens to their death, with big explosions. People will eat it up, no matter how bad it is.:doubt:

Give it a chance Maeg, MSFT Entertainment made more than a good shot and with the premises this might be another good one, especially with the creative control which may turn in a good transposition of "fall or reach"...

[color=66ff00]I'm just going with lowest common denominator MS jokes. :)

I can't really see it being anything more than a straight action movie unless they get somebody really clever to write it. Half the point of Master Chief was that he was a no-nonsense one-man army with no personality to speak of (although I haven't played Halo 2 (I got bored about 20 minutes in) so I don't know if his character evolves beyond that of Halo 1).

Of course they could base it on the Blood Gulch Chronicles. ;)

That is currently unknown. Alex Garland wrote the script (who also happens to be an avid Halo fan...), and as previously stated, Bungie seems to like it. As long as Uwe Boll stays on the other side of the planet, I'm happy...

The books do a very good job of making him seem a lot more human than he is portrayed in the games, mostly because they tell you his thoughts and show his childhood and training. IMHO, they are some of the best books I have read recently.

Sorry if I answered a bit on the heavy side on a simple joke, the fanboy in me sometimes still comes on  :D

Anyways, getting a good action movie would already be a great thing given the average quality of that niche (I still remember the D/D one... made me sick :ick: )...

I just hope the target is not teens or something like that, maybe i'll try to inquiry some of my MSFT contacts about it ;7
