Australia is a very multi-cultural society. We strongly believe in human-equality and are far from racist (compared to most other nations that we receive reports from). Despite that, Aborigines get so many exceptions and sympothy, like state-housing, discounts on a wide variety of things. Why can't we all be treated equally? The majority of aborigines that are needing assistance bring it upon themselves from constantly binge drinking, doing drugs and other criminal behavior.

There are many more 'needy' people in Australia that could use the assistance that the Aborigine people of Australia receive from the governement. And this whole idea of reconsiliation is just stupid! The aboriginal council (or whatever) are demanding an apology from today's government for actions taken at the turn of last century. 'We' didn't do it, so why should today's goverment apologise? Of course, we offer our condolences for the bad things that happened during that period, but we 'today' are not to blame. I want us all to get along and all to be treated equally like the rest of the other cultures in Australia (like, asians, europeans and africans are treated equally in Australia). Do you agree Setekh?

people in america say the exact same thing.  No matter what, things will never be equal.  it just depends on what side of the railroad tracks your from

Yeah right. Americans (black and white) still have divisions. They use racism as common name calling and can't tell the difference. White trash, black *** , etc. They're all racist comments. You see it in almost every American TV show. I don't watch that Webber show, because in the first episode it already hinted at that kind of racism. (Just look at Springer, Jenny Jones, etc) It really annoys me. Anyway, I do respect the US, it is the greatest nation on Earth.

Well, I'm a very special case, as I go to a school which is attended mostly by people like myself - people with an Asian background. So in a way it is a very sheltered environment, which is why I'm going to hold off final judgement on anything in our society as it stands now.

However, it is true that even if it is not the fault of the Australian citizens of today that the Aborigines were put in the place they are now, it is our fault that we are not doing anything to rectify the situation. Letting the current situation live as it is in inequality is almost as bad as setting it that way in the first place. Reconciliation is A-1.
