NX is the designation for experimental. Like in the GTVA it is GTXF, or GVXC and so on.

Did you know that the USS Excelsior's original registry was NX-2000, before it was recomissioned to NCC-2000 after the initial tests of transwarp drive failed (actually it could have originally been NX-01 too - someone find out...).

i've got a big long list of problems with it, the biggest being a non-instrumental beggining sequence. go to the VBB to see the list.

Hell, I liked the show a lot.  There's a lot of potential in it.

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

"The very essence of tolerance rests on the fact that we have to be intolerant of intolerance. Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill

I got to see most of it (missed the first 10 min and some other bits here and there), but from what I saw, it was pretty good.  With a couple of seasons, it should be damn good, assuming they don't make it like Voyager (which wasn't god awful, but not the best).

But they did steal the guns off an ISD.

I'm very glad to hear this but we won't get it on terrestrial TV here for about another 6 flippin years.

Anyways if it's as good as DS9 it'll really kick *** .

Hmm... 1 lightyear is 9.46e15 m = 9.46e12 km = 94 600 000 000 km. 94 600 / 30 = 3153.333.... So that's 3153 seconds to go one lightyear = 52.55 minutes. So it would take 4 * 52.55 min to get to Alpha Centauri = 210.2 minutes. Three and a half hours.

Now, did they mention any travel times in the intro?
