Well, as from this afternoon, anyone living in Louisiana has to obey a video game law as defined by Jack Thompson. This means another round of expensive legal battles which will lead to it's eventual departure for being unconstitutional.

You know, you would have thought the state recovering from Katrina would have more important things to do with its time and money....

Have you not seen Black and White 2? It blatantly teaches impressionable children that they must train an 80 foot cow to wreak destruction on the countryside.

On a serious note, my philosophy regarding game content is simple.

1.)  If it offends you, don't play it.
2.)  It's the parents responsibility to monitor what their kids play.  Unfortunately, most of America seems to have an aversion to the "R word." 
3.)  Video games don't cause violence.  People who are so immature they take video games (like GTA) seriously cause violence.

The solution:  Parents need to judge whether their kid is mature enough to play a given game...It all comes back to the "R word."

If you believe that video games don't have an effect on behavior, why shouldn't a game based on rape be perfectly acceptable?

Why isn't porno shown at 11am on Saturday mornings?

Well, my point was that it's a bit silly to try and justify one example of crime in a video game, by arguing that another heinous crime doesn't appear in a video game. JT's argument seems to be that videogames have an adverse mental effects on the minds of players, responding to that by saying that there aren't games where you rape someone just seems to imply that the former assertion by Mr.JT is true.

The point I was making was not whether the games should exist or not, it was that the Louisiana senate were being told they did when they didn't. It was the manipulation of facts that annoyed me. I wouldn't let an 8 year old child watch a movie with rape in any more than I would let him play a game with rape in, but that is my decision to make, based on my personal beliefs, not the governments.
