I thought it turned out ok.
i couldnt be bothered to make a starfield this time so I just tried that plugin for potatoshop.

The two ships are a motion blurred havok and the shivan base ship which I havent named or finished yet.

heres one of my "ugly" shots of the shivan base ship.

Like I said, its' nowhere near finished.  Im having problems adding the veiny/butressed effect.  The ship looks more curvy because I imagine it would be impossible to actually contstruct a ship on this scale.  It was actually grown and then structured.

Err..can anyone tell me if they see the whole picture and not 2/3 of it?

My connection is terrible so I can't actually tell.

On how I did it,
2 cel procedurals copied to specular, bump and diffuse.  this made one material.

1 cel material set in self-illum and diffuse with a small amount of bump.

masked off in a blend material with a planet procedural.
