I almost completed the FS2 Campaign at medium (and already got all medals and 2 times the distinghuished flying cross[/showoff]). Being at the last mission (GTD Bastion), I have been thinking of some alternatives.

My best bet: The Derelict Campaign. I heard a lot of good of that campaign, but its difficult to find the files I need. (including the new voice pack). so... Wo wants to help a already shot newb out?

Was going to say Hades-Combine but they only appear to have the main file and none of the voice acting. Which probably means that their main VP is old too.

Blaise has a FileFront account with all of the campaign files uploaded.  The files you're looking for are DerelictSCP1-4.rar and DerelictSCP.rar; download the most recent versions available.  You'll also need Lightspeed's nebula pack, which should be floating around the forums in one form or another, if you want backgrounds in the missions; if you can't dig it up, I'll find the link for you.

The voice packs are those four numbered files; there's a reason they're so big.

The reason they're so big is that the sample rate is much higher than it needs to be.

The main file at Hades Combine is now up to date. The voices should be there sometime in the near future.

Actually, this is on topic.  How - and where - does one go about installing Lightspeed's nebula effects?  I dumped the contents of FinishedSystems.zip (within NaRR10_Nebulae.zip) into my ..\Freespace2\data\effects folder, and stars.tbl into Freespace2\datat\tables.  Is this correct, or is it better to install these as a mod?

Install everything that uses custom tables or custom effects as a mod...

You could just copy Data (minus Players folder) into each mod folder, and flag in the launcher as needed. Nothing should really be put into your data folder, just as never put extra VP's in your root folder. Always in a seperate mod folder!

some good and bad points in derelict.

good point, that missions where your on your sleep cycle, that was funny! a wooden ship in a nebula, was like wtf!!!. then a shivan sj jumped in, i laughed a bit.

bad point, vioce acting is crap, in some missions i cant even hear what these people are saying.

good point, on mission 1 a decoy witch i havent seen in games for a while.

bad point, attack on civvys, bad idea imo.

currently stuck on the missions where you encouncer tychon wing and thier drones. the triton goes down too quickly. so il post more points when i can.

The voice acting's perfectly audible if you play around with the in-game sound volume sliders (accessible via F2 in-mission or from the Options screen on the main menu).  Try bumping the music/effect volumes down a few notches and maxing out the voice volume.  The somewhat lower volume of the voiceacting files is kind of an unavoidable consequence of all of us VAs using different equipment/software and not knowing how things will sound when put in-game.

Still, that sort of thing could be compensated for quite easily with even a program as simple as Audacity.  I've noticed some voices are louder than others, some are way too quiet, etc.  Where they never normalized before insertion in the VP?

If not, if a re-release of the voice-acting is intended (I saw something about sample rate somewhere?) I would be quite willing to adjust the audio levels to avoid any further problems.  It's rather simple to do.
