"The reason for this is that the original Fortran got so convoluted and extensive (10's of millions of lines of code) that no-one can actually figure out how it works, there's a massive project going on to decode the original Fortran and write a more modern system, but until then, the UK communication network is actually relying heavily on 35 year old Fortran that nobody understands." - Flipside

Former employees of many companies are not at liberty to disclose secrets to the money making operation by contract. Violating these kinds of agreements can cause you a world of trouble.
Seems like the government is only asking the same.

In this case the secret sauce would be confidential stuff about the administrations inner workings.

I might buy that if it weren't for the fact the CIA say that there is nothing wrong with the article before the editing. So it's probably not a case of the secret sauce being given away so much as the fact that someone noticed a few employees spitting in it.

Yeah, but you can't compare Pepsi to the US government. A corporation is accountable to no one but its stockholders while a government is accountable to the people. Furthermore, disclosing or not disclosing information about the workings of a corporation may result in some financial gain or loss while the actions of governments can result in lives lost, economies ruined - they hold the well-being of many nations in their hands.

Not to mention that all the redacted crap was from public speeches and statements.

pepsi and governement. why compare.

one is a sugar free coke clone creation, and the zero coke and diet coke are clones of pepsi healthy fizzy drinks, in any case they rot your teeth.

the goverment: they are full of:- crazy pyschopaths, lunes, retards, jerks, monkeys, bashers, killers, opera singers, who have nothing better to do then get rich off your money, after all aren't incompetent people supposed to be highly paid?.

anyway.. isnt the usa supposed to be about freedom of speech?
