Plus I would not be surprised to discover the Shivans had another method for getting out of Gamma Draconis, or that the Gamma Drac-Nebula node could be stablized long enough to allow their escape. The Sathanas fleet has already demonstrated impressive subspace capablities.

The Saths can't do special jumps like the Lucy. Only the Lucy can do special jumps like the Lucy. But the Saths can nuke stars. They obviously have different purposes. The Lucifer was built to survive and kill, the Sath was built to reach a star and nova it.

But how do you know?....

The fact that the Lucifer had a capship shield, while none of the Sathani did, is pretty telling.

The Sathanas is probably the more "expendable" ship - if it were "built to survive and kill" as the Lucifer was, it would probably have a shield, too.  Notice that the Sathanas fleet made a beeline to Capella without (I think) destroying any planets.

The fact that the Sathanas could generate a subspace 'thingy' and contribute to the destruction of a star, is also pretty telling.  The shield the Lucifer had would be useless against FS2 era weaponry (not a guess; it was said on the VBB by one of the devs that the Lucy was only invulnerable to FS1-level weapons).  The truth is that we don't know the true capabilities of either, never mind which was the more expendable.

Probably true.

I always explained why the Shivans didn't send in the Sathani right away by saying that the Lucifer fleet arrived through unstable nodes, impassable by more "advanced" Shivan ships and ships with beam cannons, and that the Lucifer fleet was especially configured to make such jumps.

I always liked this idea myself

That's from the FS2 box, right? Those are rarely reliable sources of info.

Also because on the box-art there is a Lucifer visible in the background... :doubt:

As I said, I liked the idea. :p

Of course it was made to hype the FS2 Shivan fleet.
