I have a great idea. freespace is, in my opinion, the best game ever made. heck, it's just like new with all of the SCP-ers working on it. i propose that you go to Volition, the remnants of Interplay, WHOEVER, and release FS2 SCP in stores. don't turn it into some conglomerated thing where everyone is in it for the money, but release it in stores, (with the free version still online) with a bunch of the best mods included and an installer that would bring up a page with all things freespace and you could check off what you wanted and click download and it would update your game, sort of like Turey's installer, only there was near everything included. it would bring in a whole new generation of players, modders, fredders, everything! think about it.
Gettin' back to dodgin' lasers.

Why would they buy it if they could get it free online?

And if it's free, some guy would just come in and take all of the copies to sell out front.

You have any idea how much money that would cost?

Yea, why would someone buy it if they could get it online for free?
That, and the code was released under the provision that we can't sell any of it for profit.
Finally, we couldn't sell it anyway, due to licensing rights. You should read this (and never ask any other questions about it, if you want more detail it's on the Wiki):
