While dapper drake and edgy eft were great releases of ubuntu...feisty fawn tended to suck major balls (that's when i should have switched back to edgy eft after installing feisty fawn.). But, i verily impatiently waited for gutsy gibbon. Several programs i found in the feisty repositories weren't very stable, feisty fawn i consider they're worst release ever since warty warthog (warty warthog was too hard to use...configuring fstab was a nightmare and i still consider it unnecessary for any linux distro..that **** should always be automatic for detecting your hard drives). OH GOD (orgasm), it's so much better than feisty fawn. OH BABY (i came).

One damn nice operating system. Although i didn't quite learn the benefits of having a file manager that isn't your web browser at the same time until i tried out gnome for a month. Then kde comes up with dolphin for kde4 (i'm gonna **** the cd i burn when that comes out...gosh that's gonna hurt), but dolphin was also released for kde 3.5.x. Dolphin for kde 3.5.x later became unsupported, but ubuntu now supports it as the default file manager for kubuntu (my fav ubuntu distro). I mean konqueror as a file manager is ok, but it really blows. Konqueror as a last resort file manager is however, great, i love konqueror, i stopped using firefox because of it (konqueror is a great web browser...you can do so much more with it than firefox...i like how kubuntu never has firefox and only has konqueror). Anyways, dolphin is a great file manager. I'm glad that the brainstorming for kde4 included a new and separate from konqueror file manager, while at the same time in konqueror you can still use it as a file manager.

After that there's the restricted driver manager for ubuntu. Hmmm yes, install nvidia-glx-new or ati-fglrx, or even the denied w32codecs, LAME, and especially the evil libdvdcss2 (if you have libdvdcss2 installed you can rip dvd isos without having to force copy...as if force copy hasn't worked every time...the days that i long for k3b to be ported to windows...you know you all want k3b for windows, then you could all stop using the nero demo with a crack to get rid of the 30 day trial).

If you like dual booting with debian based distros, try this thing a spin. I've been waiting impatiently since may for gutsy to come out. If you single boot debian based distros, get this *****. If you don't know what debian is, then hurry up and switch from your godforsaken rpm based distro. DAMN rpm's are a piece of ****!

Hmmmm, someone who doesn't read a book all the way  Well at least download any of the ubuntu releases and give it a spin as a live cd :) Was basically what i was saying. And if you're soul ubuntu user, get this immediately. Feisty fawn was pretty bad!

Running it at work now in a VMServer setup.  Very nifty and really nice to have around.

It's almost gotten to the point that i can use it as a live cd for file rescue. The new livecd mode actually will actually detect the hard drives and let you see them, but not access them. Believe me, if ubuntu can replace mepis livecd needs i'd be greatful for that. I'm really sort of getting tired of mepis, no where near as tired as i am of dumbass knoppix though (knoppix really serves no purpose).

EDIT: Hey look i got something past the censor :D

the censor only censors if the user has the sensor enabled.

anyway ive been using fawn on my laptop for awhile now. i like programming under gc++ over msvcpp any day. however thats the only thing it does well. my wireless tends to drop out frequently and i gotta go through a dis/reconect cycle. i forget what it was i used to get it working, though it did involve setting up ndiswrapper and some other utility. its an old laptop, so its very slow, at only about 800 mhz and a very tiny 256 megs of memory. so its not at all useful for things like web browsing, games, or even watching porn. i dont think it can take a newer version of ubuntu, and i dont really want to spend another 5 days on a linux install and setup.

Try xubuntu then.

I agree that Gutsy is a great distro.

Unfortunately freespace2 SCP (fs2_open) doesn't like it.  Sound is all screwed up  :sigh:

Other than that it works nicely

i finally decided on gutsy for the laptop, though it still is a tad slow due to low memory. but without proper mobo specs i dont want to try a memory upgrade.

I would put it on my laptop but the more recent nvidia drivers, which Gutsy uses, refuse to work properly on it.
