Vasuda was mostly desert, yes, but they did have some surface water (or else how would anything have survived?), and there were even a few small seas.  The shores of these seas became the geographical base for all the major Vasudan population centres.  Being on the whole a wiser and more philosphical people than the Terrans, they did their utmost to preserve these rare and valuable seas from pollution, exploitation and abuse, which is why fish are such beloved creatures (and prized delicacies) to the Vasudans.
Just as the Terrans were inspired by birds, who could fly while they were rooted to the ground, the Vasudans drew their inspiration from the fish.  Their space vessel models reflect the innate Vasudan desire to "swim through space," as they would say.

Alright, I made that up, but it sounds good, doesn't it? :D

Edit: I am an excellent typoist.

Interesting parallell.
Vasudans like to swim through space, while Terrans fly. Huh.

The FS2 database says nothing of the sort.  The closest it says to that is

Because the Vasudan homeworld was primarily desert, the Terrans used Egyptian names to designate Vasudan warships during the Terran-Vasudan war and the Great War.
Maybe it says something like that in the FS1 database, I wouldn't know. (I played FS1 on my brother's computer at my father's house, but never owned my own copy.)  If it does, could you please quote it, venom? :) I like to keep my extrapolations and interpolations as close to canon as possible.

don't rememeber. maybe it was in a CB ani in fact, but I sure remember it's written somewhere in the game. That always made me wonder how the vasudan could live w/o water, that's why I remember it.

Well, barring any evidence to the contrary, I'm going to stick to my little story. :)

Presenting my latest drawing: the GTVF Chimera, found here :

This is a combination of Shivan, Vasuden, and Terran designs, hence the name of Chimera(sp?).

If you don't know what a Chimera is, it's a mythological creature that has an eagle head, a lions head, and a snake for it's tail and it has command of 3 elements: Fire(shivans), Water(terrans), and Lightning(vasudens).

Anyways, tell me what you guys think and if anyone wants to model and texture this that would be cool!

Correction: Vasuden -> Vasudan
Sorry to ask, but how old are you?

Now where did that "I'm with stupid" smile go? :D
Wash: This landing's gonna get pretty interesting.
Mal: Define "interesting".
Wash: *shrug* "Oh God, oh God, we're all gonna die"?
Mal: This is the captain. We have a little problem with our entry sequence, so we may experience some slight turbulence and then... explode.

Wow, I've actually found someone on this board who is my elder.  I knew there had to be someone else over the age of majority here somewhere. ;)
