Ok since no one else seems to want to start this...(Torchwood)
Torchwood Series 3 /spoiled for her protection
Spoiler:
Who are the 456?

What do they want?

Why do they want it?

How is Jack and Co. gonna stop them.

Quite simply the 456 are interstellar con artists.  They want 10% of the Earth's children.  They want them because they're tech is biologic and they need components.  The reason they are con artists is becuase they are holding a pair of dueces.  They're tech is biological, yet other than a single "carrier" with a child hooked up as some kind of CPU or memory storage or whatever and that virus at the end of part 4, we have yet to see any kind of ZOMGDEATHRAY! from them.  They are masters of the biological, they're weapons of choice are viral or chemical.  The reason they're ship hasn't been detected is because there isn't one, not in orbit anyway.  They probly have some kind of ship on the far side of the moon, that "pillar of fire" being 1% teleport, 99% light show.  The thing in the tank was probably engineered to play on the built in fear mechanism to keep up off balance.  How are Jack and Gwen gonna beat it?  I'm willing to bet that that thing in the tank, which had 3 heartbeats, is the only 456 there is or one of only a few.  So Jack and Gwen are gonna do it, ride the teleport back to the alien base and do the other ones and that'll be the end.

Oh, as an aside, Lois is the new Ianto, the anti-terrorist chick is the new firepower and some as yet unidentified person will be the new Tosh/Owen.  Possibly even Capt. John might come back.

Sounds good, pull up a download. If it's aired already it's legal.
Every pilot's goal is to rise up in the ranks and go beyond their purpose to a place of command on a very big ship. Like the colossus; to baseball bat everyone.

Still no one talks about this.

The final episode is just good television.  It's dramatic, perhaps overly so, Jack has to make a sacrifice of epic proportions, large enough that he does something at the end that makes the finales from the past 2 series pale in comparison.

Saw it last night. Absolutely loved it. Best Torchwood series yet. Even if it was shorter than the others. It's a symbol of the BBC's belief in the show that they moved it to primetime on BBC1.

Spoiler:
The ending was especially good/nasty. Captain Jack had to pay the ultimate price for his indifference in turning over the first set of children. I was wondering why Bridget Spears only kicked the Prime Minister out and not the other minister who suggested using the children from the failing schools but then I realised that she wasn't out for justice so much as revenge against the guy who got Frobisher killed.

All in all it was just as dark and nasty as I expect Torchwood to be. :)

For those who haven't seen it, here's the trailer.

Re: Ok since no one else seems to want to start this...
The ending was actually much better than I expected, given how all Dr. Who (and spin-off) finals are absolutely terrible, with DEMs of massive proportions. This time it was actually acceptable since there was an appropriate, nasty price (not something half-hearted, like, oh no I lost my memory of the past 3 weeks my life is ruined).

Even though I didn't watch the first 2 episodes, the 3 ones that I did watch were pretty awesome even though I didn't know what was going on (I managed to figure most of it out by the end of course). The 456 were actually pretty creepy, unlike most of the DW villains.

And to Liberator: If you wanted people to talk about Torchwood, you would be well advised to actually have "Torchwood" in the thread title. :P

Ok since no one else seems to want to start this...[The new Torchwood series]
Well, as they said on TVTropes, Torchwood not only grew a beard, they managed to spawn an entire village of dwarfs with this series.

Perfect proof that no matter how good your CGI is a barely seen monster is probably going to be much scarier.

That said the Daleks are still pretty scary. :)

The question now is who is going to save us the next time?  Gwen Cooper?  She's about all we have left.

Well there's still Sarah Jane as long as the bad guys aren't going to scare children. :p

Spoiler:
The ending was karma for Jack. He turned over the other kids in the past and didn't care. This time his choice was to turn over one kid he cared about or repeat his mistake by turning over millions he didn't know.

And you can complain all you like, what would you have done in the same position?

I watched it and thought by far the best series and some bloody good telly watching compared to whats on at the moment. Yet its a shame it  was only five episodes and now theres only Gwen left. I wasn't to fond of the ending, Thought the rumours would be true and the doctor would show to help since he is going to be in the other spin off SJA. Wonder if there will be a fourth series? I know that Julie Gardner said that a fourth series would depend on how successful this one was.

I missed a few episodes, and thought that the alien threat was a bit silly (as expected for the Dr Who universe); but it was entertaining, and the ending was unexpectedly satisfying.
