Re: Anyone interested in a play-by-IRC/post D&D game?
I think Lock Pick should only include purely mechanical locks. We could probably just turn the hack skill into tech and change Lock Pick to security, actually. Also, I'm thinking we should consolidate PSI attack and defense into simple PSI. For other skills, I'm thinking we add Marksmanship for ranged weapon specialy and HtH for melee combat specialty. I think we should also add "Conversation" to serve as a persuasion/diplomacy/manipulation kinda check. And a Stealth skill would probably be useful, too. I'm less sure if we need something along the lines of "acrobatics," or "mechanics,"

Also, i guess I'll keep trying to flesh out the PSI abilities, just to get something more substantial than what we have now.

just calling things locked sounds good, again so does your suggestion about the hacking thing. consolidating PSI att/def has its merits for simplicity.  sorry my ignorance is starting to show here but what's HtH?  On marksmanship I was going to add an automatic attack modifier on level up to give a better aim/swing, could do both though.  a conversation system would add depth in some ways, just have to be careful it don't stop the players getting info they need.  how could I forget stealth when mentioning spot checks  :wtf:

Hand to Hand. I suppose that's ambiguous, given that it's not necessarily using strictly hands, so I suppose we can just call the skill "melee combat."

Re: Anyone interested in a play-by-IRC/post D&D game?
thanks.  In that case I think go for base attack modifier with players able to add points to specific melee/HtH and marksmanship attack modifiers to better tailor their character.

Mixing hand-to-hand and firearms is something yet to be done while keeping both fun.
You can do three things:

-Make it realistic. (Hand to hand except for rare stealth attacks is dead... firearms are vastly better).
-Make it balanced. (Firearms suck!...of firearms are no longer deadly...)
-Make it cinematic. (Ergo forgo all simulationist urges and go for the "cool". Systems like WUSHU are like this).
"I was going to become a speed dealer. If one stupid fairytale turns out to be total nonsense, what does the young man do? If you answered, “Wake up and face reality,” you don’t remember what it was like being a young man. You just go to the next entry in the catalogue of lies you can use to destroy your life." - John Dolan

I'm planning on setting encounters up so that sit back and shoot it out isn't the only solution to 1: avoid the situation you describe Flaser and 2: to make non fighter classes workable, especially in the early stages.

Ooooh, I'm intrigued now with this homebrew setting you're cooking up.

Not sure if I'll really have time to play this semester though...

Sorry I didn't make the IRC session, today.  More tired than I thought.

I was also hoping for some classic D&D character creation.  But, you know, whatever.  :/

GMT +1 (or +2, whatever it is in daylight saving or not, meh) here

Played around with pece's dice bot on irc today, which works pretty good. But I guess I missed the planned session due to me being busy with getting a mod out of the door.

It wasn't a game session, IIRC.
