Anyone interested in a play-by-IRC/post D&D game?
Exactly what it says on the tin.  Basically gauging interest, may try to get one together if interest is at least moderately good.

Except I really don't wanna be the GM.  That complicates things a bit.

I'm definitely interested!

I've got a large amount of sourcebooks and stuff, and access to many in PDF format also.  I'm not a good GM unfortunately but I'd be glad to assist one if needed.

I've actually got a homemade 4e campaign that I'm running right now IRL--my players are 12th level right now--so I'm actually all set if you need an adventure and someone to run it.

Combat is gonna take forever though. And 4e is very miniatures-combat oriented. I can't do it without some robust tools.

One tool I've heard of, but never used (being old fashioned, I've never used -any- tools other than pen, paper and a set of dice :p), is OpenRPG. Supposedly it's a kind of online 'virtual table' where you can do stuff like roll dice and placing miniatures on a map, but is otherwise game-system-agnostic as it doesn't actually care what you do with those things.

Mura was telling me about Gametable on IRC last night, but that OpenRPG looks up to the job as well.

I've never played 4e, and don't have any of the rulebooks.  On the other hand, 3.5 has most stuff online.  It's the DM's pick as to final system and setting.

I've only played DnD once, and that was about a year and a half ago, but I'd be interested in playing depending on when you guys play.

Interested in, but I have no D&D experience whatsoever, you'll have to explain me how it works from scratch.

i'd love to play, and have almost 5 years experience. started with pure 3.0, then passed on to 3.5, 4e holds no interest for me whatsoever.

So does anyone want to set a tentative date? Say Thursday or Friday of this week?

Re: Anyone interested in a play-by-IRC/post D&D game?
I'm not sure if we've got a version set, and it takes a few days to come up with scenarios.

We might wanna get together on an IRC channel this week to determine how we want this to work though.  When are people free for that?

Re: Anyone interested in a play-by-IRC/post D&D game?
Well, it sounds like Galemp already has a scenario he's ready to run, which I find intensely appealing since it's been ages since I've played and it would let us get started sooner than otherwise possible :) Of course, that would depend on whether one of the tools linked proves workable for a miniature-intensive environment, so we'd probably have to do some testing to see what goes and what doesn't.

Anyway, regardless of that, talking it over on IRC would definitely be a good idea. For myself, I can manage to get online pretty much whenever except for 6AM-2PM GMT, where I'll be at work. Sleep cycles and me have never gotten along well, so I'll just fit those to whatever time we come up with as needed :p

Oh, and for people who might be worried about having to learn it from scratch, that shouldn't be a problem. I haven't played actual pen and paper games myself since 2nd edition so I'll be doing plenty learning myself, but the newer editions are far easier to get started with (though not necessarily to master) than the older ones, and it should be fairly easy to learn along the way.

Re: Anyone interested in a play-by-IRC/post D&D game?
I'm able to get on from probably around 12:00 to 6:00 AM GMT (the curse of the central United States) and maybe an hour or two starting at 3:00 PM GMT.

On Saturday, I'll be available pretty much all day.

For meeting, how about we use, I dunno, #hlp-d&d on Esper or something easy to remember like that.
