This was my first image.  It started off as a few scribbles in Paint and finished as this...

for reference, do a search on some astonomical sites for a "reflection nebula"

seems to be what youre trying to acheive here.

Wildfire: I like it. The colors and everything are very nice. However, it doesn't look very gaseous. It looks more like a wierdly shape piece of blue glass than a bunch of gas floating in space. Try to make it more wispy and uhhhhhhhh....can't think of the other word I'm looking for. Good try though.

:) Yeah I know, but it was the first image I made and I thought it turned out well for somthing that started as a scribble in Windows paint.

Stop complaining guys! How much damage can a computer monitor do? :)
Nice work Wildfire, but it isn't very nebula-ish.

Anyone know some good techniques in PSP or Adobe photoshop for making nebulas.  That one was mostly smudging and lighting effects.

Depends really... Flaming Pear plugins for Photoshop work really well, they're what I use to make my nebulas, planets and so on.

You can also use render > clouds or difference clouds and the erraser tool to remove parts of it to shape the nebula (then specify the opacity etc...) thats more complicated and takes practice but can be worth it...

My suggestion: draw the shape (3 layers, 3 different shades or colors from darkest to brightest).  Then do an overlay and render clouds/difference clouds a few times.

I use Glitterato for nebulas, Lunarcell for planets and Universe for just about everything else (stars, suns, lensflares, etc.). ;)

I was sitting in class getting bored so I opened paint and started scribbleing at random with the spray paint brush.

After a while I looked on the rest of the drive and say Office photo editor.  Hmmm i thought, lets give this a go.  By this boards standards the results were pretty awful but I thought, hey this looks good!

Then I discovered the wonders of PSP and Adobe photo editor and (eventually) this was the result.
