This ****'s pissing me off. Well, two things.
First off: My best friend who is my mechanics son is pretty darn ****ing great at fixing cars and knowing his **** from apprenticing with his dad for two years (free apprenticeship, at the time for him, it was either help his dad and learn a trade or be homeless). So when i finally got a car and found out about synthetic oil and how his dad puts that in all of the vehicles he sells including the one i bought from him, i wanted to get more for later. I never purchased oil before. His son told me SAE means it's synthetic. Today i found out that's not true when a couple of weeks ago i found full synthetic for sale at wally world. Brain **** moment since i thought what i was buying was full synthetic. I really don't shop for oil that often. Research SAE meaning, find out it's a set of classifications for oil. Discovered my car started out with synthetic, and migrated it totally over to organic over the course of summer. GODDAMNIT. Don't know how to break that to my friend quite yet.
Second off: Been doing lots of research. Find out many oils with the full synthetic descriptor are not in fact full synthetic. Rather they are hydrocracked petroleum oils. Knock off synthetic that is not synthetic at all and still has all of the problems that petroleum based oils succumb to anyway (group III base oils). What i really want is group IV base oils. True synthetic that doesn't succumb to the petroleum oil problems because it's not petroleum based oil at all. Most oils that are advertised as full synthetic are mostly just group III base oils, or a mixture of group III base and group IV base.
Too bad amsoil is expensive along with the other few true full synthetics. I need an oil change anyway. Group III base is still waaaaaay better than group II base. So time to use fake synthetic. And while fake, might as well go cheap with super tech 5w-30 full synthetic (not really synthetic, but performs a lot like it). Super tech oils are just warren petroleum products that wal mart sells. And they tend to work pretty great.
But, i want true synthetic oil. Thank the 90's with hydrofracking for more motor oil and trying to call it synthetic (and they still try to pass that off as synthetic today). I just want to increase the efficiency of the engine in my car dammnit.
