I know the Return to Earth is a cliche cause so many campaigns are doing it but how many of them have actually been released?

I think everyone does the return to earth because the campaign ended like a return to earth would be the next thing. To make a campaign "fresh", you want to make it totally new and unexpected, kinda like derelict, imho

Cliche isn't necessarrily bad, though.  The FS1 plot wasn't exactly original, was it?  Humans fight evil, superstrong aliens from another dimension.  aliens are about to destroy Earth with a mega-super-weapon, when 1 heroic pilot destroys them.

If it's done well originality need not be a problem... it's the gameplay that counts.

Alpha wing gets burned to a crisp by the very hot and highly radioactive nebula
