Yup, PeterBuilt makes some damn good trucks.
12 cylinder diesel fun...
ah, that sounds good...

Garbage trucks are not as stylish nor do they have the same horsepower a Big-Rig does. (inline 8's are typical but never any bigger.) And they're not meant for anything over 70mph due to their screwed up transmissions.
However most of them are typically lighter International's with special bodies mounted onto their rear. No style, no room, and slow and as unmanueverable as a cow on roller skates.
Interesting; I didn't know they were less powerful as well. The main reason I am probably eventually going to go for a big-rig is that those are typically around $50-60k, which is quite affordable after saving up for a few years, while garbage trucks can go over $120k. I think most of the additional price comes from the hydraulic systems. The two actually are about equally stylish to me, but my tastes are a bit unusual.

(
this is what I had in mind; looks awesome

) Probably too expensive for me though, and not all that powerful aside from the hydraulics, so I will settle with the rig.
Of course, this will be in seven or eight years after I get a job, but I can still dream on at the moment.

(on a side note, I'm going into pure math and the only job available in that field is a univ. professor/researcher; my dad said that if I drive one of these things around a campus, everyone will think I am insane

)
At least with rigs you can get an extended cab and some decent "living" area. (A bed with 12 square feet of floorspace and an overhead locker area.) I've seen some damn nice setups in those. (Microwave and mini-fridge in one corner, mini-tower, monitor, and a regular TV in the other.
And that's not mentioning the direct TV mounts on the outside of his truck under the air-deflector. Just point his truck relatively north-facing and figure out where the satalites are and boom, 200 stations (and internet) anywhere in the nation.
Yeah, that's what I have heard as well, and these features sound quite attractive.
